Moness Resort planning application submitted

Published: 03/03/2026

An investment group affiliated with the Taymouth Estate acquired Moness Resort in 2023. Owners have now submitted a change of use planning application to Perth and Kinross Council for the dual use of 61 of the existing 103 holiday cottages within Moness Resort.

The cottages will be used as:

  • Holiday accommodation for Moness Resort guests, and
  • Residential accommodation for Taymouth Castle employees, when not required for holiday use.

The allocation of cottages will be flexible and responsive to seasonal demand, based on historical booking data and staffing requirements.

The application follows the Pre-Application Notice submitted in early 2025 and the public consultation events held on-site, where the proposals were presented, and feedback was welcomed from the local community.

No other changes to the cottages are proposed, and all resort facilities, including the hotel, restaurants, bar, spa and leisure amenities, will continue to operate as normal.

The application is intended to help address the recognised shortage of accommodation in the local area while supporting stable, year-round employment at Taymouth Castle. By making effective use of existing accommodation within the established Resort setting, the proposal delivers clear benefits by securing existing jobs, supporting local employment and the local economy while maintaining Moness Resort’s role as a key tourism destination in Aberfeldy.

Community feedback received during the consultation process has informed the final proposal, now lodged with the Council, including the reduction of the dual-use unit number from 77 to 61. The application will be determined by Perth and Kinross Council in due course, and further updates will be provided as the planning process progresses.
