Step back in time and discover a different side to Taymouth Castle at our 2026 Community Open Day.

Inspired by the archive project and short film ‘Tales of Taymouth – A Living Archive’, this year’s event invites local residents to discover the Castle as it was during the 1920s, 1940s and 1950s – from its years as a Hydro Hotel to its time as a Polish Military Hospital and Civil Defence Training Centre.

Working with local Aberfeldy Drama Club as well as volunteers and contributors to the Living Archive, a series of short performances will bring some of these chapters of Taymouth’s past to life, sharing stories gathered through the project within the Castle itself.

Guests will also be able to watch the ‘Tales of Taymouth: 1923–1968’ documentary, view archive photographs and memorabilia, and meet some of the people who contributed their memories to the project.

A commemorative booklet and light refreshments will also be provided, at the Breadalbane Reading Rooms.

How to attend

The Community Open Day is free to attend and is open to permanent residents within the PH15 2, PH9 0 and FK21 8 postcode areas.

A maximum of two tickets per household will be available. Timed entry slots throughout the day can be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis when booking opens at 12 noon on Thursday 29 October. Tickets can be reserved using the booking form below.

We are pleased to introduce a dedicated accessible session from 3.30-4.30pm for visitors with mobility requirements*. A family member or carer is warmly encouraged to accompany guests during this session to ensure everyone can enjoy the experience comfortably.

On the day

Please allow two and a half to three hours for the duration of your arrival in Kenmore, tour and return.

Visitors will register at the Kenmore Sports Pavilion before travelling by bus to the Castle, following a short walk to Kenmore square. Please bring your ticket confirmation and proof of address with you.

Supporting Aberfeldy Drama Club

This year’s Community Open Day will support Aberfeldy Drama Club, which has been part of the cultural life of Highland Perthshire for more than a century.

The drama club is raising funds to purchase LED lighting in the Town Hall, and Taymouth Castle will match the total amount donated.

Donations are welcome on the day, and a link will be shared with booking confirmations.

• The Community Open Day is a non-smoking event, including vapes and e-cigarettes.
• Photography and filming are not permitted during the Community Open Day.
• Pets are not allowed.
• Children must be supervised at all times.
• Please listen to the fire safety briefing and follow the guidance provided by your host.
• Please keep mobile phones on silent whilst inside the Castle.
• The event is open only to individuals whose main residence is within PH15 2, PH9 0 and FK21 8. You may be asked to provide proof of address. A maximum of two tickets per household will be issued.
• Each accessible ticket issued will automatically include a second ticket for a carer or accompanying family member.
• Tickets are non-transferable.
• CCTV is in operation across the site.
